Metal Re-manufacturing

The technologies that will be developed to implement the re-use strategies for the metal value chain will consist in:
- re-forming technologies for metal-based shell and frame structures. Structural elements of car bodies like pillars or roof frames, as well as outer skin elements, will be adapted to a new car generation by press forming or hydroforming. These technological possibilities will open the way to new disruptive sustainable practices in the automotive mobility product-services. Considering the frequent restyling of car models in order to meet consumers’ expectations, they will allow to reuse parts of old car versions to the new versions, while offering customers the possibility to renovate their vehicles without waiting to substitute them with new ones. In addition, the possibility to change shapes through reforming technologies will address also the post-use vehicles sourcing problem, since spares should not be necessarily remanufactured form the same type and models of car.
